Southern Quacker Wildlife Conservation (SQWC) is a Louisiana-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in St. Tammany Parish. Since 2016, we have been dedicated to protecting waterfowl populations and preserving their wetland habitats through hands-on conservation efforts, including the construction and installation of wood duck nesting boxes on private lands and public wildlife management areas.

As a volunteer-led organization, we proudly partner with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) to enhance wood duck nesting habitat, promote responsible wildlife management, and support Louisiana's rich outdoor heritage.

Our long-term vision is to install up to 500 wood duck nesting boxes by 2035, creating lasting nesting opportunities for future generations of wood ducks.

Making a Difference in the Pearl River WMA

SQWC is a proud recipient of the 2026–2027 Louisiana Outdoors Forever Grant, which supported the installation of 30 wood duck nesting boxes within the approximately 35,000-acre Pearl River Wildlife Management Area.

As of October 2026, we have successfully completed the installation of all 30 boxes! This milestone represents an important step forward in our mission to expand wood duck nesting opportunities throughout Louisiana.

With continued community support and matching contributions, we are preparing to launch Phase 2 of our conservation initiative. We have also submitted an application for a 2027–2028 grant to install an additional 60 nesting boxes, bringing us closer to our goal of 500 boxes by 2035.
